3 latest handspun yarns

The first is a single and I'm not crazy about it.  I spun it thick and thin, and should have plied it and made it a novelty yarn, but oh well.  I'm not afraid to share my ugly-ass failures.  =o)

The next one is a Pippikneesocks roving called Choco-bird.  It's about 4 ounces and only about 50 yards.  BULKY weight.

And the third I absolutely LOVE!  It is a roving from Copperpot on Etsy, 100% Merino. Purples, pinks, orange and teal.  It looks so much more vibrant in person and the photos are a little disappointing to me, but oh well.   176 yards, 4 ounces, and is about a DK weight.  I love her roving so much that I pulled out the Merino/Tencel blend I purchased from her some time ago to spin tonight.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed....

and it's ME!  I am crabby, crabby, crabby.  I don't know what the heck is wrong with me.  I'm just as irritable as a ferrel cat.  ( I know this because I met one last month and he was *mean*).  My pet-peeve is dealing with really shady, dishonorable people (hey, I've got my own flaws, I'm just sayin') and it just really turns my stomach to find out, once again, that I've been the subject of their "scam".  Blech!  I'm nobody's victim, but sometimes you can't help what others are going to do.  So I just have to let it go.  And I will....eventually.  Sorry for being such a downer.  I rarely vent on my blog, but I've got to get it out of me.  I want to vomit it out of me, but since that's not going to happen, verbal vomit is the next best thing.

On a good note, my Fricke electric adjustable skein winder is arriving TODAY!!!  This is a good news for my shoulder and for the knitters who like my colorways.  This means MORE sock yarn!!!!  Whooopeeee!!!  *doing mental carwheels*

And, I produced 3 hand-spun yarns over the last 3 or 4 days.  1 is a single that I'm not crazy about.  The 2nd is a bulky 2-ply which is o.k..  And the third, which I am really digging, looks like it will be a DK weight once it is plied today.  But, damn, did it cramp my fingers spinning those two bobbins full.  I spun it worsted and had to take frequent breaks because my hands were complaining.  Will post pics of the yarn and the new winder later.  Yay!

Mongolian colorway knit up

So, I had the pleasure of donating a skein of yarn to be knit up for the lj community 3000in2007. It was ultimately going to the Dulaan project so I decided to paint up a sock yarn that was more on the earthy side and called it the "Mongolian colorway". The wonderful Julie, aka jpettibone, knit the skein up into some beautiful socks bound for Mongolia.

Here are some photos of the colorway I painted and the beautiful socks Julie created with it.

Well this was fun...

I just finished a custom order for someone who wanted Simpsons-esque (ala Bart Simpson) superwash merino roving in turquoise and yellow.  I finished it up the other day and I think they are going to make some bad-ass socks.  I fell in love with the colors so much that I might just have to dye one up for myself.

The photo really doesn't do them justice.  I think the camera got confused by the contrasting colors.

I started spinning some Pippi roving yesterday and hope to finish it up and ply it today.  I think it is the choco-bird one...yellow, blue, and brown.  It's looking very nice on the bobbin.

You know it's bad when...

you have a nightmare that your gas tank is on empty. Again. After just filling it up yesterday. That $30 to fill half my gas tank yesterday must have wounded my fragile subconscious more than I realized. Last night's nightmare was a fright fest. GAS TANK ON EMPTY. Hmmmm....dreaming about having to fork out the mega bucks to make my car move. Must work on getting hybrid or better.

I have proclaimed today, a DAY OF SPINNING

I *need* to spin today. If I do not I will self implode. So, I'm going to throw a few more things on Etsy, a few things in the dye-pot, and then the rest of the day is mine, *MINE* for spinning. I feel like doing cartwheels!

Sunday's store update postponed

During a natural dyeing class today I aggravated an old knee injury. The cause...me being a spaz. So, I'm going to push back my store update until Monday or Tuesday when, hopefully, I can get around a little better to snap the photos and upload them. I'll post here when ready to update.

Current obsession...Pat Green Drum Carder

Just putting it out there. I MUST have one with the fur drum before the year is out. Would love a used one, maybe even some kind of trade or barter. C'mon universe, do your thing.

My lusts, Deb's Delicate or the Beverly:

Death by silk

If I don't stop spinning this damn Tussah silk I'm going to be in the poor house. I need to get some dyeing done, but I am completely addicted to spinning silk now. This morning I pinched off a few staples from my mutant silk rovings (the one's that didn't make it to the store because I let them play in the rinse water too long and set their combedness free) and spun them from the fold, alternating colorways. And I reeeeeeally like what's happening. I love all the pretty colors. The gauge is uneven, but I don't caaaaare. I did manage to stop myself. At least temporarily. I reasoned that maybe if I took some photos and posted to my blog that it just might interrupt the crazed spinning pattern long enough for me to come to my senses and get some dyeing done. I don't know if it did, but only time will tell. Whyyyyy oh whyyyyy was beautiful silk created???? I can't stay away from the stuff!

Here's a photo of the mutant hand-painted rovings and the yarn they are spinning into.

Oooh! Here's an idea...maybe I'll spin one colorway and ply with the other! I guess this little LJ interlude was unsuccessful. I need a spinning intervention!!! Pleeeeease!!!

Pic of donation yarn

Here's the skein I made to be donated to the Dulaan Project for the 3000in2007 LJ group. Since I'm too busy to knit these days, jpettibone will be knitting up some socks with it for Mongolia. Thanks, jpettibone!

Of course, me being perpetually seduced by color, was about to send her a very bright skein when common sense thunked me on the head and reminded me of where the socks would be going. So, I dyed up something much more subdued and earthy. Colors are bark brown, light golden brown, deep garnet, and a sprinkling of periwinkle. I think they'll knit up to some very cozy Mongolianesque socks. I prefer "socks that can be seen from space", *winks to V*, but I think these are more appropriate for their final destination.

The magic of re-skeining

From drab to fab.

The magic of re-skeining

From drab to fab.

You know you've been playing with yarn too long when...

you take your dogs for their morning walk as usual, say "hello" to the neighbors, and come home only to find little locks of fiber in your locks. I had little, and very obvious, fuzz balls of wool embedded in my hair. My neighbors must REALLY think I'm a freak now. And just yesterday, instead of swallowing dog hair with my daily meals, I swallowed sheep hair. And not by choice. I believe in a high fiber diet, both yarn wise and in my diet, but if this keeps up I'm going to wind up like a cat with a big fiber hair ball.

My store is updated

Now I need to pass out for a while.  The photo taking and editing sucks the life out of you!

I officially have scramble-fried brains.

Here's a sampling of what I posted today.
